Expressionist Abstract on Canvas, Alexandre Putov (1993)

A wonderful expressionist abstract study on canvas, with impasto brushstrokes in an ochre colour palette. Signed and dated to the upper right corner (1993). The painting is framed in an artist made pine canvas box frame.

Born in 1940, Alexander ‘Sacha’ Putov was a Russian expressionist painter who originally trained as an architect. He later moved to Paris in 1980 and was affiliated with the ‘Art Cloche’ (homeless art) movement, influenced greatly by Russian avant-garde and French Impressionists. Working predominantly in oils, his vivid style is characterised by a distinctively bold and imaginative use of colour.
